Advice on Conterfeit Printer Ink Cartridges and Toners
Counterfeit printer inkjet cartridges and toners often give very unsatisfactory results, and in many cases damage printers, sometimes beyond repair.
Here are a few tips to spotting a counterfeit cartridge before buying:
- They may be sold in bulk, at a sustantially discounted (and so tempting) price - however it's not worth the bargain!
- The packaging may be open.
- The packaging may look different to previous cartridges or toners you've bought from that manufacturer - HP, Epson, Canon, Brother, etc.
- If your brand of ink cartridge or toner have had security labels on in the past, check for this.
- If you are offered the cartridges or toner via a cold-call from a call centre, and the seller won't offer any of their company details, this MAY mean they are selling counterfeits. Always buy from a legitimate seller.
- Watch out for terms such as 'compatible' or 'equivalent'
- Quote your required cartridge or toner number and don't accept anything else.
If you have purchased a cartridge or toner, finding some of the faults below MAY be a sign that it is counterfeit, in which case we advise you to stop using it immediately.
- A difficult/poor fit with your printer.
- Poor printing quality, including streaks and blots.
- Blocked ink heads on your printer.
- Printer malfunction.
